Last week on May 8, it was the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, when in 1945, WW II was officially over, and the Germans surrendered. There were massive celebrations all over Europe, celebrating freedom from the cruel and deadly Nazi occupation.
In the corridor of the Concorde metro station, connecting the #1 train with the lines 8 and 12, there’s a wonderful series of black and white photos of people celebrating VE Day on May 8, 1945. Crowds are cheering in France, England, and U.S. in locales such as the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Élysées, the Opera Garnier, Times Square, and various sites in London.
