Since 1780, the fabled jewelry house Maison Chaumet on Place Vendome has produced exquisite jewels for Marie Antoinette and Napoleon and many other royals and celebrities.
The Golden Age is a temporary exhibition heralding a new generation of jewelry designers from 1965 to 1985, upending the traditional designs of the past. Embracing the swinging 60s, the modernity of the 70s, and the decadent 80s, the bold designs by Rene Morin and Pierre Sterlé reflected the freedom of the period with experimental jewelry that had not existed before.
The jewelry was further enhanced by the opening of L’Arcade in 1970, a modern boutique where 250 new jewels were displayed in a gallery-like setting, paving the way for an evolution in how jewelry stores were designed.
