Last week I went to see the terrific new show at Le Chic Arts Decoratif et Mobilier de 1930-1960 at Le Mobilier National/Les Gobelins. It has been a long time since I’ve visited the museum and once inside, I was reminded of the splendid architecture of the building and the high-quality exhibitions they present.
Le Mobilier National/Les Gobelins is a French government organization that is responsible for collections of antique and vintage furniture and incorporates La Manufacture des Les Gobelins and La Manufacture des Beauvais, which are historic tapestry makers from the 1600s. The museum is in the 13th arrondissement on Avenue Gobelins.
Le Chic Arts Decoratif et Mobilier de 1930-1960, is an exhibition celebrating creations of the glorious, history making furniture designers and architects from the 1930s to the end of the 1950s. Designers include André Arbus, Jules Leleu, Jean Pascaud, Étienne-Henri Martin, Marc du Plantier, Gilbert Poillerat and Raphaël Raffel. The two- floor exhibition displays an exquisite collection of furniture, tapestries, chandeliers and light fixtures, mirrors, and artworks. The first floor is a mix of singular pieces and a few room setups, and the second floor opens up into full, blown decorated rooms with fabulous tromp l’oeil walls.
This is one of the best shows in town now, so don’t miss it.
