Out of all the Yves Saint Laurent in Museums exhibitions, the one at the Centre Pompidou was the best curated and my favorite. Saint Laurent was heavily influenced by artists and many of his collections paid homage to them including Picasso, Matisse, Bonnard, Léger, Braque, and Mondrian, and the Pompidou is the ideal setting to put the clothes side by side with the art works.
The show is interspersed throughout the permanent collection on the fourth and fifth floors. One of the fun parts of going through the exhibition was it was like a treasure hunt, and you must go through every gallery and every nook and cranny to discover the clothing treasures. Some of the outfits had a direct correlation to the artist, including Robert Delaunay and Mondrian, and the others were more abstract but well matched with the art.
Walking through both floors, I was once again smitten and inspired by the amazing permanent collection.
