Before I get to today’s post, I want to thank everyone for watching my live Montmartre Tour yesterday and also for your generous tips to my PayPal account. I know some of you had trouble viewing the event, and also, if you watched it on YouTube, you couldn’t comment, so I apologize for that. CLICK HERE to watch the video and CLICK HERE if you would like to leave a tip in my PayPal account (you don’t have to have a PayPal account), which I would greatly appreciate. Enjoy!
Walking through Place Saint Catherine in the Marais last Sunday I discovered a very cool, newly opened fashion boutique, Paradoxe Paris.
I love discovering new creative talent, and Paradoxe Paris is owned by Jeremy and Elie, two young designers (see above photo). At the moment they are focusing on reinventing underground fashion from the 1990s and the now traditional sweat pant, by upgrading it with luxurious materials from France. I thumbed through the first rack as you enter the shop and saw a collection of what looked like run of the mill sweatpants, but upon looking at them closer and feeling the fabric, I knew they were different. The young, well dressed salesperson and marketing manager, Raphael explained to me that the designers use real velvet that is used for upholstering furniture, and also thick gauge velvet used for curtains, rather than velour. The next rack had an eclectic selection of sweatpants in unusual and exuberant fabrics, and Raphael explained that each pant was either one of a kind or a limited edition of 10 or less. The fabrics were either remnants or recycled.
My personal favorite sweat pant redefined dress pants by using classic black and gray gabardine and would look great with a classic blazer, T-shirt underneath, and a pair of jodhpur boots.
Switching gears, there was another collection of jeans, which are handmade and the designers use a patchwork of denim pieces, and then a painstaking, shirring technique to create unique designs.
There’s also a small selection of canvas messenger bags, knapsacks, and tote bags made by hand.
Paradoxe Paris is just three years old and uses online marketing and Instagram to sell their products along with the shop that opened two weeks ago. Everything is made in the basement of the shop, and Jeremy and Elie are like two mad fashion scientists toiling away to create innovative and expressive clothes for today.
