Christmas in Paris 2018: Galeries Lafayette

Today starts my annual coverage of the Christmas windows and festivities in Paris. 

Galeries Lafayette is first up and this year the windows convey The Dream Factory, which includes theAdvent calendar, the gift factory, Santa Claus village, and New Year’s Eve dinner. 

Inside is the towering Christmas tree stretching up to the top of the glass dome decorated with precious jewels from Piaget.

Everyone’s favorite holiday ballet, The Nutcracker is presented this season by the Kiev Opera Ballet. It’s a rare opportunity, as the Kiev ballet last performed in Paris in 1964.

Festival du Merveilleux/ Musée des Arts Forains

The enchanting Musée des Arts Forains, the museum of fairground arts, is only open to the public between Christmas and New Years. (Click here to read my blog post from 2013). A rare and magical experience you shouldn’t miss of you are in Paris.

Jardin des Plantes Light Festival

Lions, Tigers, and Bears and many more animals are coming to the Jardin des Plantes. The Natural History Museum is presenting a show of illuminated animals who are extinct or in peril including dinosaurs, polar bears, mammoths, turtles, butterflies, pandas, elephants, and penguins. 

Note: The display is only in the evening
