Alphonse Mucha
The epitome of the decorative Art Nouveau style was represented by the Czech born Alphonse Mucha. Painter, sculptor, photographer, and decorator, Mucha first gained fame by drawing posters for legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt. He later abandoned his decorative style for more serious and politically charged work including The Slavic Epic (1912-1926), a cycle composed of twenty monumental paintings about the history of the Czech Republic.

Jakuchū - Royaume Coloré des Etres Vivants
Ito Jakuchū, one of the great Japanese artists from Kyoto, is having his work shown in Europe for the first time. His paintings filled with flowers, fish, and birds are supreme examples of 18th-century polychrome style. The collection has only left Japan once when it traveled to the National Gallery in Washington D.C., so don’t miss this rare treat.

Dazzling Venice. Venice, the Arts, and Europe in the Eighteenth Century
Also known as La Serenissima, Venice flourished in the 18th century as an important center for the arts and music. Painters such as Giambattista Tiepolo and Canaletto, sculptors Corradini and Brustolon, and composers Porpora, Hasse and Vivaldi created their masterpieces in this period. The Grand Palais revisits this rich period in a new show.

I am so pleased to have Ann Mah as my guest this week at on A Bite of Paris. We went to Le Mistral, her favorite Paris bistro and had their signature dish, aligot, a rich, creamy mix of whipped potatoes and cheese from the Aveyron region.
Click here or link below to watch Ann and I enjoy aligote.
