My selection for September is Passport to Paris, a memoir by 94-year old by Glynne Hiller.
In 1950, Glynne, 26, comes to Paris with her husband, Joe, and her three-year-old daughter, Cathy, so they can all learn French and study in Paris. But after a year, Glynne leaves Joe. She doesn’t love him (she asks herself if she’s ever been in love) and she seeks a more liberated life. Saucy and beautiful, Glynne charms one man after another, including the movie star Jean Gabin. Then she meets Maurice and learns that she can indeed fall in love.
Now there’s a bit of a personal twist to this book. I am Facebook friends with Glynne’s daughter Catherine, who is a well-respected author and editor. A few months ago Catherine told me that her father’s name was Joe Nahem, who is frequently mentioned in the book, and asked if I was related. She later told me that her father was one of eight children and grew up in Brooklyn, close to where my father grew up. There are very few people with my surname, so this is a big curiosity for my family and me. I wrote to my family members to see if they know anything, so I will keep you informed if this mystery unfolds further.
Glynne and her publisher, Heliotrope Books, have kindly supplied a giveaway of the book to a U.S. resident or mailing address. Be the first person to leave a comment at www.eyepreferparis.com and win a copy of Passport to Paris by Glynne Hiller.

I am so pleased to have Ann Mah as my guest this week at on A Bite of Paris. We went to Le Mistral, her favorite Paris bistro and had their signature dish, aligot, a rich, creamy mix of whipped potatoes and cheese from the Aveyron region.

I would love this book, Richard. I am into genealogy. You'll enjoy your journey looking into your family's history. It would be so awesome to find out that you are related. Have a beautiful day!
