I don’t remember if I ever mentioned my brother Joe on Eye Prefer Paris, but he is one of the top interior designers in the U.S. His company Fox-Nahem Design was co-founded with Tom Fox in the 1980s. Since then Fox-Nahem has designed dozens of mostly residential projects including apartments, lofts, townhouses, brownstones, and summer homes all over the U.S.- New York, the Hamptons, Connecticut, Florida, and California. Fox-Nahem has a stellar reputation for creating imaginative, custom interiors sourcing rare antiques and original made to order pieces crafted by artisans, woodworkers, metal workers, and weavers. They have been featured in the best shelter magazines and publications including Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, New York Times, Luxe, NY Spaces, and Interiors and also been on the highly-coveted Architectural Digest/AD Top 100 List several years running.
This year is a very special year for my brother, with two major projects coming to fruition.
Fox-Nahem: The Design Vision of Joe Nahem is a fabulous coffee table book published by Abrams, highlighting 15 design projects with text about Joe’s design process along with 250 sumptuous photos. The forward is by Robert Downey Jr., who Joe had the privilege of working with this year.
The other project is the publication of Robert Downey Jr.’s East Hampton house in Architectural Digest last month, along with a funny video with Robert, Robert’s wife, and Joe.
I am so proud of Joe’s success and the beautiful body of work he has created over so many years. Joe had a flair for decorating and design at an early age. As a teenager, he designed our cousin’s bedroom, with a platform bed and a white furry throw, and when my parents went to Europe for a month, he completely redesigned the living room and dining room, surprising/shocking my parents when they got home. His first official design project, again when he was a teenager, was an aunt’s one bedroom apartment in Brooklyn. He went on to graduate Parsons School of Design in New York.
