I am always instantly inspired when I see great art exhibits and some of my best photo work has come directly from taking photos in the same museum right after my visit.
Last Monday night I went to see the David Hockney retrospective at the Centre Pompidou. I was awestruck not only by Hockney’s incredible talent for color and form in his paintings and drawings but also by his prolific output for seven decades, constantly moving forward in expanding his art in different mediums such as film and computer technology.
Leaving the exhibit, my head was swimming with thoughts about how to extend the boundaries of my own work. I’ve always been drawn to the sweeping panoramic views from the top floor of the Pompidou, which include Sacre Coeur, Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. A few years ago I captured a breathtaking sunset facing west with streaks of violet, blue, pink, and orange painting the blue sky. Each time I go I search for something different or new to photograph.
On Monday night at about 7:30PM the western view with the Eiffel Tower had a heavy dark line of clouds on the top with rays of sun shooting out. I took some photos but I was not inspired by them, they needed something more. The universe must have heard me because a few minutes later it started to rain heavily. The windows were now rain speckled and I started to snap away, capturing the skyline in between the raindrops, something I haven't done before.
I snapped some other views before and after the rain, which I hadn’t shot before.
I would love your feedback on these and would like to know if you have some favorites.
