I had an 8:10PM train back to Paris from Lyon on Saturday night, so I had less than two hours to see the rest of the Fete des Lumieres, as all the exhibitions start at 6PM. I didn’t realize it but there are 79 events, so obviously I couldn’t see them all, so I raced around the city strategically planning my route so I can take in as much as possible. After the press tour on Friday, we were invited to dinner at a restaurant. One of the girls that worked for the PR agency recommended certain must see events, so I made my plan according to her.
One of the highlights was Draw Me Lights, an animated mural simulating a Lyon apartment building with famous Lyon residents projected on a building wall. It was quite sophisticated with moving animation set to great 1920s jazz music with dancing and moving figures.
I was running to get to my train, which was pretty far from my last light exhibition and it turned out to be like one of those comic movies (think After Hours) where every obstacle got in my way for to get to my destination, including a Chinese parade, hoards of people partying in the streets, closed streets and squares and being misdirected by cops. I made it to the train in the nick of time. Next year I will be sure to spend two full nights at Fete des Lumieres.
