Just in time for the festive Christmas season, Cartier has put on a grand show of their dazzling diamonds and gorgeous gems in an exhibition at the Grand Palais. The show encompasses over a century of the remarkable jeweler’s history with a showing of over 500 pieces including tiaras, necklaces, watches, rings, clocks, compacts, cigarette boxes, pins, broaches, and pins, as well as clothing, paintings, and sketches.
The show starts with the single shop Louis-Francois Cartier founded in 1847 to the era from 1874 when Louis, Pierre, and Jacques Cartier made Cartier an international brand name. There is a section towards the end of the exhibit that focuses on the legendary celebrities and royalty who have collected Cartier jewels. A ruby necklace given to Elizabeth Taylor by third husband Mike Todd, the Peregrina pearl given to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton, a collection of jewels designed for the Duchess of Windsor, another collection commissioned by Princess Grace of Monaco, and the 23.6 Williamson diamond, one of the finest pink diamonds in the world on set in a broach on loan to Cartier by Queen Elizabeth, are some of the highlights.

Holiday greetings. I always enjoy I Prefer Paris. I'm wondering if Mme. Ganna Walska's divine belt of jade circles with rubies was included in this show. It was when the exhibition from Cartier was at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco several years ago. Ganna Walska built the Champs Elysee Theatre to sing there!! then gave it to city of Paris. She spent her last years at her great estate Lotusland and gardens here in Santa Barbara. Also in the SF show they had two of her Cartier Mystery Clocks.
