It's now a tradition. I take my August/September vacances in the cool fog of California’s Monterey Peninsula. When the heat hits Paris … I have to flee, not to a villa in the south but to my old stomping grounds of ocean and redwoods. I catch up on the (incomprehensible!) American television trends, from “So You Think You Can Dance” to the frenzy, lies(?), and pancake makeup of political conventions. I embrace Netflix in marathon style. And I dive head first into whatever local pools will have me, so I can continue my photographic water series.
I am still a novice at this, my underwater venture. I gasp for air. I bob to the surface before the shot is composed. My subject periodically floats away. And I swear I’ll buy some sophisticated diving equipment for the next shoot.
But, at the end of the day, I love the freedom of never knowing exactly what will happen … or where I’ll float to next.
