If you look straight ahead in the Arcades des Champs-Élysées you will see a tacky Las Vegas style shopping mall teeming with tourists lining up to buy Starbucks coffee and shop in cheap souvenir shops. If you look up you will see a fabulous world of architectural details.
In early August I met a man who owns a prestigious shop that sells mint condition Art Deco and Art Nouveau furniture and objets. I told him about my fascination with Parisian street lanterns and he told me that some of the most beautiful lanterns in Paris were inside the Arcades des Champs-Élysées.
He was right and I was thrilled about my new find. They were unique and gorgeous and I shot them from every angle I could and I also captured the stunning details of the ceiling.
I couldn’t find anything about the history of the arcade but I am guessing from the details of it, it was built in the late 1920s or early 1930s.

I love art deco as well so I found your blog on the Arcades des Champs Elysees absolutely brilliant. I’m just sorry I didn’t know about this place when I was over there...definitely next time.

These lanterns are fantastic. They certainly remind me of Lalique and I wonder if they were created by him.
