My good friend Suzanne Flenard and her boyfriend Jeremy moved to Paris from New York in 2008 for a six-month "experimental" stay and four years later the "experiment" has turned into a full time life in Paris without looking back.
Suzanne had been in the retail design business for many years in New York prior to moving to Paris and her last job was at Design Within Reach, where she was the top producing salesperson in the U.S. for more than three years.
Still enamored with her lifelong passion for modern design, Suzanne spent months decorating her new Paris apartment in the Marais, but was surprised and frustrated by the lack of attractive throw pillows and other modern home accessories available in Paris. Suzanne decided to make lemonade out of her design lemons, and channeled her frustration into a new business.
Square Modern is a "limited edition" collection of modern, decorative pillows/cushions made in Paris with textiles imported from the United States. Suzanne chose to use reclaimed fabric remnants from prestigious textile manufacturers, such as Maharam, Knoll and Kravet, thus providing a sustainability aspect to them. The cool thing about the pillows is that they not mass produced and will be limited editions, according to the run of the fabric with new designs being frequently updated. All the pillows are manufactured in the heart of Paris in a small atelier.
Square Modern offers free shipping for just the covers, all over the world and they cost 75 euros each, which I think is a very good value for the quality and unique design. Each cover has finished edging, a hidden zipper closure and can be removed for dry cleaning. The square and rectangular shaped covers fit standard size pillows.
I wish Suzanne much success with her fabulous and original pillows and can't wait to buy one myself.
