Enjoy this guest post about glorious springtime in Paris.
Flights to Paris are cheaper than ever this year and in the brief time between now and peak season flights will be even less costly – but that’s not the only reason to visit Paris in the spring! The city is popular all year round, but things tend to become a bit more muted in the winter months. The arrival of spring heralds the return of much of what makes Paris beloved by travellers the world over.
As the spring thaw sets in, chasing away the winter chill, Paris in springtime is awash with colour as flowers and blossoms burst forth from every angle and Paris’ fashion elite step out in their spring colours. The city’s famous café culture also makes a reappearance, with pavements filled to burst with tables and chairs as the scent of freshly brewed coffee and newly lit cigarettes wafts across the streets. There are still the occasional spring showers in the City of Light, but these add to Paris’ green charms.
Springtime in Paris means it’s time for the city fairs to kick off once more. These fairs are a truly Parisian experience, with the Foire de Paris running through April and May and the Foire du Trone beginning in March and closing in April. The former is all about the finely cultivated arts of French food, wine and design which will appeal to any gastric-tourist. The latter, the Foire du Trone, is a delight for families as this carnival-style fair is designed with children in mind.
Paris’ outdoor museums and attractions fling their doors wide open in the spring: the Musee Rodin’s sculpture gardens are a particular delight as the grounds are filled with famous and beautifully carved sculptures, including the famous ‘The Thinker’ found at the centre of a rose garden. If you want to leave out the art, a trip to the Luxembourg Gardens can bring spring in to your life and is a serene oasis at the centre of a bustling city.
Paris is a stunning holiday destination all year round, but in the spring it comes into its own and as you’ll be visiting before peak tourist season you can enjoy a little more tranquillity in this fascinating city.
