Glancing at the numerous gorgeous pastries in the refrigerated case a few weeks ago at Jean Paul Hevin, I fixed my eyes on the adorable red and green striped mini Buche de Noel and it stared right back at me. I figured this was a no-brainer for my December Parisian Dessert of the Month. This was no traditional or everyday Buche. Its name, Grand Cru, is usually reserved for fine wine.
Filled with praline, chocolate sponge cake, orange and ginger jelly, and chocolate mousse, this was pretty close to an outer body experience. The chocolate mousse so velvety passing the roof of my mouth plus the crunchy praline followed by the tang of ginger made me swoon. Even the sugar icing was delicious and not unbearably sweet. What a way to finish off the year.
Buche Grand Cru comes in three additional sizes to feed 4-6, 6-8, and 8-10 people.

Leave it to M. Hevin to come up with something so fabulous. I love the neon stripes and can only imagine how delicious the orange/ginger/chocolate combo is!
