I just launched a fun new daily Twitter post- Paris Photo du Jour. Every day I will post a photo of Paris. Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/eyepreferparis
Pain de Sucre is one of my favorite Marais patisseries. Pattisier Didier Mathay creates some of the most beautiful and mouth-watering pastries in Paris. He also mixes the most interesting flavors together and the minimalist design of his pastries resembles contemporary art.
Pain de Sucre has expanded to a larger boutique next door to his original one on the rue Rambuteau near the Centre Pompidou. His magnificent pastries now have a larger, gleaming setting to show them off. Outside is a red vinyl bench the length of the boutique with square cafe tables of dark wood with iron frames. The long horizontal window showcases pastries perfectly. Inside the focal point is a refrigerated case with glass on top and the bottom has tastefully embossed white letters abstractly spelling the name of the boutique. In the case are specialties like Spitch, a glass layered with cookies, pistachio, and wild strawberries, infused with a layer of mint tea, Rosemary, a cake made with a sable laced with rosemary, a pulp of raspberry and rhubarb, Etat de Choc, a Sacher biscuit of almond and cocoa, cream of hazelnut praline, chocolate mousse, and dark chocolate ganache, and the Duchesse, an almond crust topped with almond cream and orange, figs, and violet flowers. If that doesn’t tempt you to drop everything and dash over to Pain de Sucre to indulge in a pastry, I don’t know what will.
Unless it's a Pain de Sucre pastry as my upcoming Parisian Dessert of the Month later in November.
