Eye Prefer Paris on Twitter
I just launched a fun new daily Twitter post- Paris Photo du Jour. Every day I will post a photo of Paris. Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/eyepreferparis
Let the preparations begin: Ladies, haul out your chicest, most glamorous ball gown and your shiniest baubles out of the vault, and gentleman, don only your finest tux and your special occasion cufflinks. What for? The biggest gala of the year: the American Friends Musée d’Orsay Gala Benefit on November 12 which celebrates the launch for the American, Paris-based, nonprofit organization that supports the Orsay and Orangerie museums. It coincides with the recently renovated Musee d'Orsay or as the Orsay president Guy Cogeval calls it Nouvel Orsay.
AFMO was begun by American citizens who recognized the contribution made by the Musée d’Orsay to American museums and to the American public. In 2008, following a highly successful collaboration between the Art Institute of Chicago and the Musée d’Orsay, Guy Cogeval, the new President of the Orsay, and Olivier Simmat, Director of International Relations and Development, voiced their enthusiastic support for the formation of an “American Friends.”
Honorary Chair Susan Tolson, wife of U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin, and Paris residents Seonaid McArthur, Sherry Johnson and legal advisor Sam Okoshken were instrumental in the early phases of creating the partnership.
For a mere $125 (90 euros) for members or $200 (140 euros) you will get a private viewing of the new Orsay accompanied by the curators, Champagne and hors d'oeuvres by Dalloyau, a live chocolate art performance by Eat the Paint, and New Orleans jazz music by Cakewalk Babies.
I will be putting away my sneakers and jeans and putting on my finest dark suit and silk tie for what promises to be a night to remember. Won't you join me? I promise to take you for spin on the dance floor if you do.
