Daniella Schoch from Zurich, came to Paris for a long weekend in end of July since it was a holiday on August 1 in Switzerland. She told me in her email when she booked the tour that she was an amateur photographer and was interested in seeing another side of Paris. Originally she wanted to do a Marais tour but the day before the tour she asked if we can do a tour of Montparnasse instead since she was staying in the Marais. I hadn't done a Montparnasse tour in a while and was happy to have a change of scenery from my Marais tours.
I was excited that Daniella was a photographer and I brought my camera along. We met by in front of La Rotonde by the Vavin metro station. Daniella and I hit it off right away and she was very pleasant and easy to be with. It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and I showed Daniella the famous brasseries along Blvd. Montparnasse including Le Select and the art deco gem, La Coupole, in which Daniella took some photos of the inside. Next up was the Montparnasse cemetery and we spent a long time snapping away the fascinating tombstones and mausoleums of famous writers, artists, and entertainers. "Take this shot from this angle, if you crouch down right here you will get this great shot, make sure you get this shot" I kept on saying to Daniella as we kept discovering great photo ops and realized we had similar "eyes". We continued up the Blvd. Raspail and strolled the empty, charming streets and alleys near rue Vavin. We stopped at a cafe for a cool drink and we chatted. Daniella works in the financial side of the insurance business and is a passionate photographer and artist. Last year she had a show of her work in a gallery in Zurich. We ended our tour in front of the landmark restaurant Le Closerie de Lilas and we were both very happy with our photos.
Below are some of Daniella's impressive photos of Montparnasse and some other parts of the city. Tomorrow I will post my set of photos from the tour.
Have a look at Daniella's blog and her Flickr page.
