I recently started taking photos of bicycles around the city. They have a certain charm which is hard to describe. From the slick racers that are used in the Tour De France, to the beat up but tough spray painted bicycles to the delivery ones with baskets to the gray, to the utilitarian Velib rentals, they are a vital form of transport to get around the much trafficked rues of Paris. Not to mention that with the recent strikes they were the only reliable way to get from here to there.
Please read the excellent article In Spite of the Strikes, You Can Come to France
on Bonjour Paris by political writer Michael Barrett.

Richard, me too, I love bikes and I love taking photos of bikes....
And although I think that every biker within Paris intra-muros is potentially suicidal, I also admire every one of them immensly. I wouldn't dare and in these times of strikes I prefer to use my own two feet.... But I have a BEAUTIFUL shiny, pink Swiss Ladies Bike in my garage, complete with metal panier in the front, in which my little Dachshund used to rest when I took her to places (swimming in lakes etc.).
Thanks for this cheerful contribution on this glorious autumn day....

Love the bicycles - my very favourite is the orange - I figure cars would be better able to see me as I pedalled around and around the ~arch de triumphe~
