I always say the mark of a good cheese shop is its smell and Pascal Trotté Fromager stinks in the best way possible. The small, narrow shop has an incredible selection of the finest, most delicious cheeses. In fact on the right hand side there are over 40 varieties of goat cheese alone and on the other side cheeses include Comte, St. Marcelin, Brie de Meaux, Comte (one of my favorites, like a strong Swiss or Gruyere with a fruity taste), Saint-Nectaire, Roquefort, Pont-l'Eveque, Reblochon, Tomme Fermier, Camembert and Morbier. The card from the shop says fromager affineur, which means they are in charge of the crucial aging process of the cheese.
In case the heavenly cheeses weren't enough, they also sell organic eggs, yogurt, Poilane bread, Ardeche dry sausage, confiture, and fresh pasta.

I lived for 7 of my 8 years in Paris at 6, rue St. Paul and did most of my shopping on the Rue St. Antoine. Great neighborhood!

My mother used to have an apartment rue des Archives. Whenever I went to visit her I would go to this cheese shop and buy several cheeses. I would end up eating only cheese in the evening with a couple of different wines. I salivate just remembering it all. My mother has passed away now but last December while in Paris I had to go to this shop and bought some cheese. I left it out the hotel window during the day – good that the weather was cool!

I am wondering whether the cheese shop mentioned by Vagabond is the "Fromage… ou Dessert" at 13, rue Rambuteau, almost on the corner of rue des Archives. Great little shop with a wide variety of cheeses.
