I went back to the Place de la Concorde last Sunday morning to see if there were any shots I hadn't covered from my visit last month. I discovered some unique angles of the Eiffel Tower that I was thrilled about since I am always looking for views of it I have not seen before. The next series is of the beautiful white marble statues with horses and after that are some interesting shots taken through the gold encrusted wrought iron gates at the entrance to the Tuilleries.
The 3,300 year-old Luxor Obelisk in the center was given to France as a gift from the Ottoman viceroy of Egypt in 1833. It was the entrance to the Luxor Temple and the red granite column is 23 meters high and weighs 250 metric tons. On December 1, 1993 for World AIDS Day, the activist group ACT-UP PARIS unrolled a massive pink condom to cover the obelisk.
Please let me know in the comments section if you enjoyed Place de la Concorde week.

Bonjour Richard,
I loved your photos of Place Concorde this week. And this is why I fell in love Paris in the late 60's, on my first trip. Its statues and buildings are so magnificent, even the modern pissoirs are a work of art! There's nothing like this city in the world (and I've traveled far and wide as you know after meeting me in May)...its a feast for the eyes and the soul. Your photos brought these feelings back to me.

Bonjour Richard,
Love your photos. What are you shooting with...a new camera or the repaired one?

Amazing, amazing photography against that cobalt blue Parisian sky. And the historical facts = so interesting. Didn't get to spend 'quality' time in Place de la Concorde or at the Eiffel Tower and your words and pictures make me want to come back even more -- get ready, Richard, because it WILL happen!!! my very best to you - barb in texas

Bonjour Richard,
These are the most intricate picture of the Place de Concorde. My first visit was at night so couldn't see all the different statues or read the Obelisk. Then when we saw it in daylight it is truly stunning. Thank you for showing me in great detail what I was looking at and the history behind it. Paris, I love you.
