I spent the past month in the U.S., driving around in a car, shopping at Target, and catching glimpses of American reality on TV—like Conveyor Belt of Love, where men pass by on a conveyor belt and have 60 seconds to impress the women.
Given my homeland visit, I had no new Paris photos for this month’s column. So, I went searching in my photo library. I discovered a theme, a spirit of Paris that hovered around moments of joy. But, more importantly, I found proof of why I live here (beyond the easy answer of there is no such thing as Conveyor Belt of Love). For me, Paris is about how much life you can live between the ticks of the clock. It’s about that underlying force of energy … everywhere … in the streets, in the metro tunnels, on the quais. It’s about people doing exactly what they feel, moving to jazz rhythms and defying time. It’s about being set free.
