One of the food markets we will shop at on my Eye Prefer Paris Cooking Classes is the fantastic Grenelle market in the 15th arr. I went to this sprawling, bustling market on Sunday with my friends Barbara and Paul who live in the neighborhood. It was a pitch perfect sunny spring day and the market was already jammed with Parisians loading up their shopping carts with their weekly groceries when we arrived at about 11:30AM. Not only is there every kind of food, glorious, food imaginable, but there were the most breathtaking spring flowers, rich patterned scarves, stands with immaculate antique furniture and rug reproductions, and frivolous Sunday church hats available too.
Hey, ya big cheese!
We walked almost the entire length of the market, about six blocks, smelling the remarkable aroma of roasted chickens and sweet scent of humongous deep purple peonies, taste testing the succulent cantaloupe and died-and-went -to-heaven mini roasted potatoes, and eyeing the dazzling array of goat cheeses, country bread, langoustines, spices, nuts, dried fruits, canards, foie gras, rabbit, and handmade honey.
We cut our visit short because the sensory overload made us ravenous and had an early lunch of fluffy cheese omelets, eggs over easy, Nicoise salad, and goat cheese tartine on Poilane bread at a nearby cafe. A perfect Sunday in Paris.

Glad to see my local market get some press! It's not the fanciest, but I think it is great.

It's Sunday morning but I am not wearing a hat. I would though if I could be there to taste those goodies.

There is also an excellent little street market nearby in rue Cler which is a most interesting market. This is away from the tourist areas and it is a typical local French market where Parisians do their shopping. Such a variety of wonderfull foods they sell!! Well worth a visit - and - don't forget the chocolate shop!
