I found this lovely, quiet square in the 5th arr. last month when I visited the College des Bernardins. Square Paul Langevin in front of the the Ecole Polytechnique, the engineering school near the Sorbonne, was built to honor the Paul Langevin who was one of its most respected teachers and a renowned physician. There is a handsome statue of the 15th century poet Francois Villon. I particularly like the overgrown vines twisting up the stairways and also the green moss growing up the tree. Most beautiful of all are the Ingres angel wall sculptures.
