Dear readers and subscribers,
Today is the last day of the Eye Prefer Paris subscription contest. Please email me and let me know how many people you have subscribed so I can announce the winner tomorrow.
Brilliant minds think alike. My friend Paul Kaehler, who lives in the San Francisco area but keeps an apartment in Paris that he visits a few times a year, sent me photos of this door nominating it for the Door of the Month. I told him that I had photographed the same door about a month ago and was waiting to post it, so I gladly accepted his nomination. The photos are both his and mine.
The building was originally a hotel particulier ( a private mansion) built 1713-1715 by Claude Nicolas Lepas-Dubuisson for Missions étrangères de Paris/The Society of Foreign Missions of Paris. An almost identical building was built next door where the writer Francois-René de Chateaubriand lived from 1838 to 1848. The doors on both buildings represent the four corners of the world which was the goal of the Mission.
18 rue du Bac, 7th arr.
