I'd also recommend 'Le Bouquet des Archives' -- R des Archives at R des Blancs Manteaux. A so, so typical unpretentious bistro du coin, with its regulars who work in the area and eat lunch there every day. It gets much more raffish in the evenings and serves no dinner (unless pastis is your idea of dinner).

L'Arsenal across from St. Paul Metro is about the same price. Not as nice, but they have a good variety of hot meals at about that price. It's also a Tabac for your miscellany needs.

Did you visit the Oberkampf Locandiera ? It's Gérard's younger creation...
They also have italian Bitter aperitive now - people love or hate it.
