Last week I had a super nice and fun couple who took a Marais tour and one of my cooking classes. Nancy and Len were from Los Angeles, and were staying in an apartment in the Latin Quarter. They told me the apartment had a great outdoor patio and they invited me for a drink one night to see it. The address was 8 rue de Bievre and I remembered the street because I posted a blog about the small, charming Jardin rue la de Bievre, at # 20.
I had a bit of a hard time finding the apartment, even with Nancy’s specific directions. The very subtle entrance door on the ground floor was more like a glazed office door, but it turns out was the entrance to the apartment. Inside was a spacious, loft-like living room with modern furniture and an open kitchen. Nancy took me up the winding stairway to see the bedrooms and bathrooms, both tastefully decorated. After the grand tour, we went outside to the patio for wine and snacks. It was a typical spring evening with an even white light starting to settle in and the stone walls, trellises, vines, trees, and half timbered walls surrounding the garden made me feel I was in a quaint French country cottage, possibly in Normandie.
We spoke at length about love, life, careers, Paris, Los Angeles, and endless other topics in the beautiful tranquility of the garden.
We continued our conversation over a delightful dinner at Ze Kitchen Galerie, a well-known, highly rated fusion restaurant.
I loved spending time with my new friends Nancy and Len and I can’t wait till they return to Paris.
