One of the few things surprisingly lacking from my area in the Marais are artisanal coffee bars. Ironically, one of the first of these coffee bars opened near me when I moved here, but I don’t really fancy it, so while they have proliferated all over the city, I’ve longed for a new one to open near me.
My wish finally came true about three months ago when Le Peloton Café opened, a five-minute walk from my house. Owned and operated by Christian and Paul, who also own Bike About Tours, either or both of them are usually seen behind the counter diligently brewing coffee or frothing and steaming milk for the perfect noisette or café crème. Le Peloton uses beans from Belleville Brulerie, a company and coffee bar in Belleville that imports and roasts their own beans imported from Honduras, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Kenya, and Rwanda.
Christian and Paul are two nice, laid back guys who create a relaxed neighborhood feeling. Le Peloton also serves home baked chocolate drop cookies and recently added homemade sweet and savory waffles to the menu. I tried the cheese waffle, (there’s also ham and cheese and arugula) and it was excellent, light and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Sweet waffles are served with fresh whipped cream, Nutella, and sugar. Filtered coffee is also served along with hot chocolate and a selection of organic fruit juices and nectars.
I wish Christian and Paul the best of luck and look forward to many more excellent café noisettes.
