I haven't done a Metro Station of the Month in a long time. I have exhausted most of the stations worth writing about but this month the Hotel de Ville station merits a blog post. Installed on the walls of the platforms are a series of wonderful Doisneau photographs which promote the exhibition Doisneau at Paris Les Halles at the Hotel de Ville. When Doisneau heard the Les Halles wholesale food market was going to be torn down in 1967 to put up the current Les Halles shopping mall, he vowed to take photos every week till the closure. He also documented the bulldozing and the vast hole in the ground after it was torn down along with the disappointing shopping center. While you are waiting for the metro, take yourself back in time and soak up Doisneau's rich world of characters from the market and if you have time, go see the exhibit.
Take note of the rare color photo.
