Richard, after getting to watch the French at the Guiness International Oyster Festival the last two years in Galway, I realized that the French really DO know how to shuck!!!

Without a doubt, my favorite restaurant in Paris for many, many years. But the BIG Bofinger, not Le Petit. I LOVE that domed stained glass ceiling, the friendly waiters, and the fabu food & wine. Seafood towers = BONUS!!! merci X3!

Chez Bonne Femme

Bravo! Brasserie Bofinger is one of my faves. Guidebooks will tell you it draws a lot of tourists, but WHO CARES? It's belle-epoque Paris at its most authentic best, and the food is classic, traditional Alsatian brasserie style food.

In cooler weather, be sure to get the Choucroute Garnie. I went there with a woman who said she didn't like sauerkraut, so she ordered something else. I asked her to try mine, and she kept digging into my dish throughout dinner. (Thankfully, the portion was ample).

So, do yourself a favor and try this specialty, even if you don't think you like sauerkraut. And order some ice-cold Riesling to go with it.

Ah, how I wish I were there...
