The Sound of Music
What can be more festive than The Sound of Music at Christmas? The Theatre du Chatelet is presenting a glorious 50th anniversary production. I love the hokey Pierre et Gilles poster. I have never seen a stage production of one of my favorite movies ever and I still cry every time I see it.

Over 50 giant ice sculptures of all the Paris monuments including the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and even Rodin's Thinker are on display in a 5,000 sq. feet tent on the Place de la Concorde. Bundle up, it's cold- -6 Celsius /21 degrees Farenheit.

Ice Rink at Hotel de Ville
It's time to sharpen your skates again for the annual opening of the skating rink at the Hotel de Ville. It will give you lots of time to practice before the Winter Olympics in February 2010. The rink has free admission but skates cost 5 euros to rent.

Do all your holiday shopping in over 170 stalls at the festive Christmas market on the Champs Elysees. When you are done you can indulge in a glass of hot mulled wine.

Come take an ethnic culinary journey with me and chef and caterer Charlotte Puckette, co-author of the bestseller The Ethnic Paris Cookbook (with Olivia Kiang-Snaije). First we will shop at a Paris green-market for the freshest ingredients and then return to Charlotte’s professional kitchen near the Eiffel Tower to cook a three-course lunch. After, we will indulge in the delicious feast we prepared along with hand-selected wines.

Richard, today's photos were wonderful! I love the patinoire at Hotel de Ville and all the lights on the Champs-Elysees. Wish I could be there! (maybe March)
