I've been thinking about what to post for Bastille Day/July 14 2009. I have written about the usual festivities like the fireman's ball in past years and didn't want to repeat myself. One of my tour clients Jean Pierre sent me an article about a new edition of Ernest Hemingway's A Moveable Feast to be released on July 14. Writer and editor Sean Hemingway, Ernest Hemingway's grandson, took on restoring his grandfather's original manuscript after his uncle Patrick suggested he re-examine them. He discovered that Mary, Ernest's wife and his godmother, had edited the book and made changes to it that Hemingway did not know of and replaced with her own words. The Restored Edition has a section with 10 chapters Hemingway originally didn't include and also a reproduction of parts of the original manuscripts in longhand.
The Restored Edition of A Moveable Feast is being published on July 14 2009, the 45th anniversary of the book's publication and 50th anniversary of the original manuscript. Click here to read the full article.
So, voila, this is the perfect Bastille Day story.
