Happy Thanksgiving 2008

This is my fourth Thanksgiving living in Paris and the third time I am making traditional turkey dinner and all the trimmings. Actually its a bit of a pot luck  with some friends bringing dishes. As many of you know I was a chef and caterer in New York for over 20 years before I moved here and still use many of my tried and true recipes. I am having fourteen people over this year.

Here's the menu:
Farm raised turkey
Grand Marnier, dried apricot, sausage and slivered almond stuffing
Fresh cranberry sauce with pears poached in espresso
Sweet potato crunch
Mashed potatoes
Roasted broccoli in garlic oil
Pecan pie
Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting
Fruit crumble
Lots of red wine

I can wait to eat all this yummy food.

My former French teacher Luc Georges, who still gives lessons in New York, sent out this email last year with a French Thanksgivng vocabulary list. Here it is again.

Happy Thanksgiving. I am in the California wine country with my family about to enjoy our meal, I will be in Paris next week, and would like to find out about tours. I have been there many times, but know there is much more to see.

Since Thanksgiving isn't a national holiday here, I'm doing mine today (I was in school yesterday). I know that there are standard words for Thanksgiving and cranberry, but all the French people I know call them le Thanksgiving and le cranberry (pronounced, of course à la française: le Sanksgeeveeng and le cronbereee.)
