If you noticed, I didn’t feature a Metro Station of the Month in January. The good news is I am featuring two metro stations this month to make up for it. The bad news is, this will be last in this series unless someone can suggest some other ones I haven’t thought of. I have pretty much exhausted all of the interesting possibilities for other metro stations.
Tomorrow I will debut a new monthly feature to replace the Metro Station of the month. Bet you can’t guess what it is.
At the Concorde metro station on the #12 train platform, each individual wall tile has an indigo blue letter on it. The letters spell out the text of Déclaration des Droits de l'Homme et du citoyen, the French constitution, adapted by the Assemblé Nationale in 1789.Urban planner, artist, and architect Francoise Schein designed the station in 1991.

Place de la Concorde is one of the most beautiful places in Paris with its pretty fountains and famous obelisk, a gift from Egypt. It has unparalleled views of the top Paris landmarks: if you stand at a certain place on it, you can see the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the Assemble Nationale and the Grand Palais all at the same time. Place de la Concorde was famous for its public executions, which were a primary source of entertainment in the 1700s, or the live reality TV of its day. Marie Antoinette, King Louis XVI, Madame du Barry, Danton, and Robspierre were all voted to be guillotined in front of thousands of cheering fans.

Varenne

The Varenne metro station on the # 13 line, is the stop for one of my favorite Paris museums, the Rodin, which boasts a lovely sculpture garden. A replica of the world famous “The Thinker” stands on the platform alongside a sculpture of Balzac.

In case you didn’t know, The Last Metro is a fantastic film from 1980, a French classic written and directed by Francois Truffaut, with Catherine Deneuve and Gerard Depardieu.

I shall miss the Metro of the Month as your eye saw things I didn't. As for what the new feature will be, I'm sure it will be exciting but I'm hoping for chocolatier or patisserie or parc of the month! As always, thank you for the lovely insights and pictures.
