I just returned from a short whirlwind trip to New York. It was my mother’s 80th birthday last month and a mob of 15 family members and friends celebrated the big occasion by taking a 4-day cruise on the Queen Mary 2 to Eluethera in the Bahamas. We sailed on Friday afternoon, a glorious sunny warm day and the view of the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano Bridge was spectacular.

It was 4 days of sun, fun, non-stop food, and family, family, and more family. I was on an infant’s feeding schedule, having some type of meal almost every two hours. The only disappointment was there was no midnight buffet, but my waistline thanked me for that. The huge ship is one of the largest in the world, with 12 decks, and the length is a few city blocks. Activities included a spa, shuffleboard, ping pong, napkin folding lessons, theater games from the Royal Academy of Drama, afternoon high tea with scones, and even a Abba concert.
I lived dorm style, crowded & cozy, sharing a cabin with my nephew
E-E and cousin Claudie.
Every night we dressed to the nines and had dinner in the elegant dining room, which served sublime eclectic cuisine including a spa menu that listed the calorie content. I completely ignored anything under 1,000 calories, even if it sounded delicious.
We only spent a half -day in Princess Quay Island off of Eluethera and it was filled with swimming in gorgeous blue green water, sunbathing under the lush palm trees, and a tasty barbeque.
My family was on best behavior and miracle of miracles, nobody even raised their voice in 4 days, at least in my presence.
After leaving the ship, I had ship lag for a day or two and felt like I was still rocking.
All had a wonderful time, and the best part was my mother had a birthday celebration she’ll never forget. Here’s to you, Mom!

I am pleased as punch to announce the launch of Eye Prefer Paris Tours, which are 3-hour walking tours I will personally be leading. The Eye Prefer Paris Tour

Glad you had a good trip, Richard.
It was great to meet another blogger in person and didh about Paris. Sorry we were so tired that night! We had been overdoing the walking, I think, and were babbling idiots by the time we caught up with you.
For the next few days we limited our walking around, taking more buses. Except for Sunday when we walked from the Cluny to our apartment near the ET in the rain.
While you were on your way to New York, we were shopping at E. Dehillerin. I'll do a post on that in a few days.
Anyway, it was great meeting you in Paris.
Mimi, only 550 days or so from her next trip...
