Back in Paris after almost two weeks of good culture shock in San Francisco and Miami, Thursday night I went to the opening of the Femmes Heroiques show at Musée de l'Homme. It was the perfect event to acclimate myself again to cosmopolitan Parisian life.
Timed to coincide with International Women’s Day 2007, the show consist of 11 mannequins representing the myth of female super heroes with special powers.
Mixing fashion, sculpture, metal work, whimsy, and outstanding craftsmanship, the exhibition is a smash. Each piece is exquisitely detailed and stunningly executed with imaginative use of materials including glass, chiffon, velvet, nails, metal, and rubber.
A friend of mine, David Gil, is one of the curators of this brilliant show. He introduced me to some of the very talented artists who created the pieces and I hobnobbed with them while swilling down swell Champagne and gobbling tasty hors d’ouevres. The crowd, ever so chic, was the ideal backdrop for the show.

Housed in the Musée de l’Hommes, which I had never been to before, the museum is part of the grand set of buildings built in the 1937 known as the Trocadero, which also includes the Theatre Chaillot and the Maritime Museum. Using the “moderne” style, there are two wings creating an arc, and in between the buildings is a plaza that has the best, drop- dead view of the Eiffel Tower.
